01 · The "Before" Reality

The Tuesday-Morning Mess

Running a $1.3M lawn and landscape maintenance company in Cape Coral/Fort Myers for 22 years, Mike lost 13 field workers over the past year to immigration enforcement, and then had to let go of another worker (Dan Otero) on October 16. Because Mike was trapped in the field mowing lawns 10-12 hours a day, 4 days a week, he had zero time during business hours to post job ads, screen applicants on the phone, check driver's licenses, or answer inbound customer quote calls.

02 · Single Constraint Diagnosis

Primary Constraint Locked In

Catastrophic Field Labor Shortage After Losing 13 Trained Employees to Immigration Enforcement - over the preceding 12 months, MK's Lawn lost 13 experienced crew members, forcing owner Mike Klopack back onto a lawn mower 10-12 hours/day, 4 days/week (running two routes off a single truck) right as peak Florida snowbird season arrived.

As documented on the Sprint 1 Scorecard: "Field crew hiring is the biggest constraint." Until 1 Crew Lead and 2 Crew Members are hired and onboarded, Mike cannot get off the truck to sell high-margin landscaping projects or manage his $60,000 AR.

03 · What Was Built in the Sprints

Specificity, Workflows & Playbooks

Within 7 days of onboarding (2026/10/13 to 2026/10/21), Operations Manager Carolina Velarde stood up Google Workspace (office@mkslawn.com), mapped both the AS-IS and Proposed Hiring & Lead Acquisition Workflows, authored 9 Bilingual Hiring & Onboarding Playbooks (sent to Mike on Oct 21), and took over daily applicant sourcing and phone screening across Indeed, ZipRecruiter, and Facebook Community Groups to hire 1 Crew Lead + 2 Crew Members by December 11.

04 · Real Rollout Friction & Course-Correction

How the System Held Up in Real Life

Because Mike was literally on a loud commercial lawn mower 4 days a week, synchronous 1-hour zoom calls were nearly impossible, and MK's Lawn didn't even have a shared Google Drive or company email domain set up for operations. Carolina didn't wait: she set up office@mkslawn.com and the company's Google Drive structure herself, scheduled quick 10-minute 1-on-1 check-ins with the remaining crew members via group text, built 9 Hiring Playbooks by Day 7, and launched the recruiting funnel - generating up to 16 applicants/day, screening 50% by phone, and routing 4 pre-qualified candidates directly to Mike for paid field trials.

05 · Before vs. After Operational Shift

What changed in the work.

Owner InvolvementMike worked 10-12 hrs/day on a mower 4 days/wk after losing 13 employees; zero time to screen job applicants or answer quote calls.Carolina owns 100% of ad posting (Indeed/ZipRecruiter/FB), bilingual phone screening, and interview scheduling; Mike only conducts final paid field trials.
Workflow ExecutionAd-hoc hiring when desperate; no written screening criteria, trial-period rules, or onboarding checklist.AS-IS & Proposed Hiring Workflows + 9 Hiring & Onboarding Playbooks built Oct 20 and delivered Oct 21.
Visibility & CadenceNo central crew roster after Dan Otero's Oct 16 departure; no applicant pipeline tracker.Live Crew Roster Doc, office@mkslawn.com workspace, and daily applicant funnel tracking toward the Dec 11 hiring target (1 Lead + 2 Crew).

06 · In Their Own Words

"I have experience with hiring as well, so I'm perfect for this role... I can take a lot of those roadblocks off of your plate so you can focus on growing and doing the things that you want to do the most... Field crew hiring is the biggest constraint. Mike confirmed his applicant sources, screening questions, trial period, and follow-up process, and 9 draft Hiring Playbooks were built October 20 and sent to Mike October 21."
