Owner Bottleneck Scorecard

Is your service business waiting on you? Rate 15 statements across five areas (decisions, people, process, numbers, time) on a 1–5 scale. You'll see your score and your biggest bottleneck right on this page. No email needed to see results.

Who it's for: owners of service businesses with roughly 10–50 people who feel the business slows down when they step away.

Not for: businesses in a cash crisis or turnaround. Fix cash first.

Scale: 1 = Not true at all · 2 = Rarely true · 3 = Sometimes true · 4 = Mostly true · 5 = Completely true

A. Decisions

1. My team makes routine decisions (scheduling, small refunds, job changes) without asking me.

2. Each manager or lead knows which decisions are theirs and which are mine.

3. When I'm unreachable for a day, no customer job stalls waiting on me.

B. People

4. Someone other than me runs hiring and onboarding for field and office roles.

5. Every role has a written list of what it's accountable for.

6. Underperformance gets addressed by a manager, not by me stepping in.

C. Process

7. Our core jobs (sales to scheduling to service to invoicing) are written down as SOPs.

8. A new hire can learn their job from our documents and a trainer, not from me.

9. When something goes wrong, we fix the process, not just the problem.

D. Numbers

10. We review a weekly scorecard of 5–15 numbers as a team.

11. Each key number has one owner who isn't me.

12. I can see this week's sales, backlog and cash position without asking anyone.

E. Time & focus

13. I spend most of my week on growth, key relationships and strategy, not daily fires.

14. We hold a regular weekly leadership meeting with a set agenda that runs without me driving it.

15. I could take two weeks off and the business would run normally.
